Blue-Chip California

The Land of Opportunity

  • California is one of the most interesting and important regions of New World wine. Many of the worlds Old World appellations have rigorous style and varietal laws that date back decades.  California does not subject its producers and growers to such restrictions.

Diverse Terroir, Distinct Wines

  • California’s wine is influenced by an array of mountains and valleys, the persistent and profound presence of the Pacific, and a myriad of microclimates. Winemakers here can put creativity and countless winemaking techniques to use.

Top-Performing Fine Wines

  • California's fine wines have been performing well on the international market. According to Liv-Ex, the value of the top California wines increased close to 17% in 2021. Dominus 2018, named Wine Searcher's 2021 Wine of the Year, led the charge.

  • 1. A Storied History with New Found Fame

Settlers and missionaries first planted European vines in California in the 18th century. The two World Wars, Prohibition and the Great Depression virtually eliminated the California wine industry in the first half of the 20th Century. The post-war economic and social boom of the United States brought the wine industry in California back on its feet. It was not until the legendary 1976 Judgement of Paris where California solidified its name as a premiere wine region throughout the world.

  • 2. Cult California

Many of the world’s largest wine companies are located in California; however, the State also hosts many boutique wineries. These smaller and often independent producers are affectionately dubbed “California Cult Wines”. These wines are regarded throughout the world for their collectability, scarcity, age-worthiness and demand prices accordingly.

  • 3. Napa: The Jewel of California

Napa Valley is the most famous of all the California AVAs. Napa produces what many believe to be the archetypal California wine; rich, opulent and oak-aged red wine typically high in alcohol. Napa’s vineyards are some the most coveted and expensive real estate in the entire wine world.
